Helen C. Lee
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Helen Lee’s photographs are portraits of people around her. She likes taking pictures of people she knows well enough that they will be themselves in front of her camera. Lee is interested in capturing emotional facets of different people. Human facial expression is her favorite subject for photography, because it is extremely flexible and shows personalities and emotions of people. Instead of showing just facial expressions, Lee likes creating a unique image from several totally different sources. Although every object has its own beauty and power, the artist has found that working from multiple images is more exciting rather than taking pictures and printing them as they are. Lee thinks there is no boundary in art, and is always ready to try to approach new experiments and different kinds of styles.
