Sonya A. Lawyer University of Florida www.sonyalawyer.com Sonya A. Lawyer is an artist who is also a biologist. Or, is she a biologist who is also an artist? As Lawyer pursues an MFA degree in creative photography at the University of Florida, she finds herself more and more believing in the science of art and the art of science. Her work is about where she fits into this world as a black female artist practicing, producing, and working in the 21st century within a postmodern context. Consequently, issues of displacement and identity are found throughout the work. She finds herself needing to comment on different social and political issues to hopefully begin a dialogue.Lawyer is a multimedia artist incorporating elements of straight black and white and color photography with digital media. She also ventures into the realm of performance, installation and interactivity. Lawyer is grateful to her graduate faculty members for their support and inspiration.
