Myra Green’s current body of work, The Beautiful Ones–photographs
of both pop-star icons and the artist’s family–have been physically
worked over to mutate their origins. By manipulating the images through
numerous
processes, she eliminates the space between icons of fame and family. This
handling of
the image creates a monotone world, which encompasses the individuals.
Information is sometimes difficult to understand, and figures fade into
a world of color.
Identities are lost, while fashion, postures and attitudes sit on the surface
of the image. These images are a physical representation of how the artist
has learned about beauty, and how memory intervenes with the understanding
and interpretation of that message.
