Soon-Mi Yoo

Soon-Mi Yoo was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. After studying German literature at Yonsei University (both BA and MA), she moved to Seattle, Washington in 1990, where she made "Do Roo (Circling Back)," a 16mm short film. Her first contact with photography was at Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, where she took photography classes while working on a feature film screenplay, entitled "Orchids." She fell in love with photography and entered the MFA program at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1997. Currently she works with various media. including photography, film, and text. She is a member of the Washington Coalition for Comfort Women Issues and a certified florist.
