Ann
Mansolino received her B.A. in English from the University of
California at Riverside and is currently pursing an M.F.A. at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In her current
work, she is investigating issues of history and memory in relation
to the construction of identity and is exploring the role that
remembered narratives and treasured objects (such as old family
photographs) play in creating and preserving a sense of self in
connection to a significant and enduring past. Photographs and
textual narratives are presented paradoxically both as historical
records and as sites of contemporary creative activity, suggesting
the ways in which the process of remembering and the process of
creating may merge into one another imperceptibly, at times becoming
one and the same. Mansolino works three-dimensionally with photography
and is also involved with digital imaging, artists books
and installation.
