Jennifer
Laffoon received her B.F.A from the School of the Museum of Fine
Arts and Tufts University in May, 1996. Deciding to take a year
off, Laffoon began working as a freelance photographer in Boston
before attending graduate school. She is currently working towards
a Masters in Fine Arts at the University of Arizona. The
journey across the U.S. from Boston to Arizona has been a major
influence in her most recent body of work. "Driving from
one state to the next and staying in a variety of roadside motels
inspired me to create this body of work. The series investigates
my voyeuristic interests within the public and private spaces
of motels. The interiors of these spaces and the stereotypes of
a seedy clientele often associated with these motels are of particular
interest to me, especially when considered through the lens of
contemporary cinema and mass media."
