Acknowledgements

We wish to acknowledge those who have made this year’s National Graduate Seminar a reality. Foremost as always we wish to acknowledge the Agfa Corporation which provides the ongoing financial support for the seminar. We wish to thank in particular Dionn Tron, Vice President of Corporate Communications, who has offered advice and encouragement throughout the year. In addition, the Agfa Corporation has printed this issue of the journal.

A special thanks goes to Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell of the Tisch School of the Arts and Elaine Mayes, Chair of the Photography Department for their advice and continuing support.

A special thanks to Anna Novakov who collaborated in the programming of the 1998 program. Thanks to Suzanne Lacy, Thomas Finkelpearl, Rosalyn Deutsche, Julia Ault who offered programming suggestions. Thank you to our colleagues, who, over the years, have continued to help us each year with programming suggestions. These include Christopher Phillips, Deborah Willis, Jennifer Pearson Yamashiro, Joanna Bigfeather, Monica Chau, Susan Grant, James Nakagawa, Susan Otto, Shelley Rice, Jolene Rickard and William Thomas, to name but a few. Thank you to our jurors, Julie Ault, Daniel Dawson, and Joanna Bigfeather.

A special thanks to our colleague, Rebecca Lewis, who has transcribed the panel presentations for five years now. We are fortunate, for she does an incredible job.
A special thanks to those faculty members at Arizona State University; California College of Arts and Crafts; Florida State University; University of Connecticut, Hartford; Indiana University, Maryland Institute College of Art; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Rhode Island School of Design, Rochester Institute of Technology; Tyler School of Art, Temple University; School of the Art Institute of Chicago; School of Visual Arts; Southern Illinois University; Syracuse University; University of Colorado, Boulder; University of Houston; University of New Mexico; and Visual Studies Workshop who helped the students representing their institutions find the funds to support their travel expenses. This contribution freed enough programming funds to support a significant portion of the program.

Thank you to Ian Brightman, President of Charles Beseler Company, to Mr. Atsushi Bando, President of Mitsubishi Imaging (MC) Inc. and Mr. Takeshi Arakawa, manager of Marketing for the General Merchandising Division of Mitsubishi International Corporation who have made the annual support for individual fellowships possible. We offer thanks to our friends at Japan Film and Photography Institute in Osaka and especially to Mr. Michio Tomi for his continued support of the fellowships. Thanks to an anonymous donor who contributed support for an additional 1998 fellowship. And a special thank you to Gay Block for her crucial program support.

For all our good ideas, intentions and efforts the reality is that without these people, who were willing to take the time to listen to us and who have bothered to invest in our joint future, none of this would be possible. On behalf of the participants, fellows and faculty — thank you all.

Additionally we wish to thank Sarah Farsad, John Hitchcock, Una Knox, Su Jung Lee, Arianna Rinaldo, and Susan Spong who have so ably staffed the 1998 Seminar. We thank NYU Photography Department staff members, Barbara Weissberger and Erin Donnelly for their efforts on our behalf. We again offer a special thanks to NYU faculty member, John Kline and Carl Peterson who patiently and graciously helps us plan and arrange for facilities and equipment each year. Thanks to Roberta Kahn for her ongoing cooperation in arranging rooms and exhibition space for the 1998 Seminar. Thanks to our terrific 1998-99 API program assistants, Paula Ordonhes, Danielle Mericle, Robin Mericle, and Arianna Rinaldo and Paul Surdi and volunteer Augustín Torres, 1997 Fellow, who worked so diligently throughout the year.

Thank you one and all!
