Myong Hwa Jeong

Born in Seoul, Korea, Myong Hwa Jeong has also lived in Japan and Egypt.
She received her BA in English Literature from Yonsei University in Korea.
She came to the United States to study photography in 1994.
Her major documentary project, titled The Republic of Apartment, examines
the apartment culture in Korea which has emerged in the process of rapid
industrialization and Westernization in the 70’s. She
is currently working on a project on Koreatown in Los Angeles, a complex
multi-ethnic community, which has been under/misrepresented through mass
media. Her works, consisting of images and text, explore social
and economic questions within a specific urban space, bringing light to
hidden class relations and making visible the everyday life of people.
