Sara Irving
New Mexico State University
Sara Irving has lived and worked in New Mexico since 1982, She received
her BFA in painting from Massachusetts College of Art and her MFA in photography
from New Mexico State University.
Her large scale works explore her relationship with vernacular landscapes
through the juxtaposition of multiple images, constructed narrative panoramas,
and autobiographical text. The metaphoric and disjunctive text
questions the polemics of landscape and its relationship to desire, The
imagery simultaneously evokes and critiques western landscape ideologies.
A reinterpretation of traditional landscape space is created through varying
visual and scale dichotomies, which echo the journey of the viewing eye,
traversing the land. |
