H.  D’Arcy Curwen

D’Arcy Curwen grew up in Apple Valley, California, the home town of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.  He completed a B.A.  in studio art at California State University, San Bernardino in 1993.  He has interned at the California Museum of Photography in Riverside and studied at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY.  He is currently exhibiting work in the Western New York Show at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.

D’Arcy’s current work explores the potential for landscape photographs as catalyst for autobiographical narratives.  Throughout this works lies reference to the mythology of the cowboy as he has pervaded and influenced dominant North American ideology, specifically our relationship to the land.  D’Arcy is interested in the effects of media representation, and how there representations help define our understanding of the world.
