H. D’Arcy Curwen
University at Buffalo
D’Arcy Curwen grew up in Apple Valley, California, the home town of
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. He completed a B.A. in studio art
at California State University, San Bernardino in 1993. He has interned
at the California Museum of Photography in Riverside and studied at the
Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY. He is currently exhibiting
work in the Western New York Show at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.
D’Arcy’s
current work explores the potential for landscape photographs as catalyst
for autobiographical narratives. Throughout this works lies reference
to the mythology of the cowboy as he has pervaded and influenced
dominant North American ideology, specifically our relationship to the land.
D’Arcy is interested in the effects of media representation, and how
there representations help define our understanding of the world.
