Amy Snyder
California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, California

After getting a BA from the University of Michigan in German and History, Amy Snyder moved to San Francisco to pursue, logically, a “career” in photography. Since her arrival in California, she has worked in a variety of capacities in the commercial arena. Amy’s personal work comes out of the crippled tradition of documentary photography. In part, Amy’s work involves reinventing ways in which to tell someone else’s story. Currently, she is collaborating in her studio with a young woman named Missie.

For the past two years Amy has been a teaching assistant at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland and works in the photography/media department at the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco. Amy has won numerous awards for her photography, co-curated a show at the San Francisco Camerawork, and has participated in group shows in the Bay Area and across the country. Amy will complete her M.F.A. in photography/film and video in the spring of 1995.
