Loren Sandvik
University of Northern Iowa

Loren Sandvik grew up in Ceder Falls, Iowa, a midwestern town with few cedar trees and no waterfalls. Sandvik enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa. The facility is a picturesque white washed one room school that costs 8.5 million dollars, and is located in the center of a corn field. With the completion of four years undergraduate work, Sandvik dropped out of school. Upon the back to back reading of On the Road, and On the Mississippi, he loaded up his truck and moved to Beverly...Hills that is, swimming pools and movie stars. Actually, it was Koreatown in Los Angeles. Sandvik received his Ph.D. in the school of menial labor in California (UCML). His occupations have included grave digger, field worker, plumber’s assistant, ditch digger, video store manager, tire and brake store manager, migrant labor boss, security guard, and worst of all, retail sales.  In the fall of 1995, Loren Sandvik will attend California Institute of the Arts as a MFA degree candidate.
