Bill Thomas
holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas and MFA in Photography
from
the University of Houston. Since he began exhibiting his photographs
in 1992, his work has appeared in numerous group exhibitions, including:
New American Talent: The Eighth Exhibition, sponsored by the Texas
Fine Arts Association. His work was recently chosen to be part of an upcoming
exhibition, Texas: Between Two Worlds, at the Contemporary Arts Museum
in Houston, Texas. Thomas' current project attempts to deal with taboo
social-psychological content in an ironic and humorous way. His Suicide
series consists of photographs of self-directed and constructed tableaux
in which he is seen in the act of attempting suicide by a variety of outrageous
yet believable means. Thomas intends to present the viewer with issues
relating to the cohesion of the self, self destructive behaviors, the acknowledgment
and denial of death and alienation, against the backdrop of humor. |
