Susan
Otto
University of Southern California, Los Angeles
Susan Otto graduated from the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago in 1991 with emphasis in photography, video and film theory,
and then moved to Los
Angeles. In 1992, she received a full scholarship for the MFA Studio Art
Program at the University of Southern California, where she is a teaching
assistant with
David Bunn. Her work in photography and video utilizes interrupted visual
and textual narratives to explore issues of gendered power structures,
violence,
and women with guns. Her work has been included in shows in New York, Chicago,
San Francisco and Los Angeles. In addition to studio work, she is also involved
in the Critical Studies Department in the School of Cinema and Television
at USC. Her critical writing has appeared in various art publications
including the Southern California Women's Art Caucus Journal, Los Angeles
Center for
Photographic Studies' Framework, New Art Examiner, Artpapers, and Artweek.
She now lives in
a fortress in downtown LA with a man, two cats and plants. |
