Yoshi Makino
San Jose State University, San Jose, CA

Yoshi Makino received her BFA in Photography from the California College of Arts in Crafts in 1989.  She was born in California to a Swiss mother and Japanese father. Her current work is an investigation of her simultaneous connection and disconnection to her father and Japan. Her photographs have become increasingly three dimensional, synthesizing Eastern and Western objects, such as chopsticks, Japanese paper, embroidery hoops and Christmas tree lights to make lanterns which project family photographs. Her previous series of photograph collages captures the impressions she had while traveling in Ghana, West Africa. In the fall of 1993, she will continue her MFA studies at the University of California at Irvine.
