At a time when governmental support has become a prerequisite for patriotism, the American people face contradiction with their notion of democracy. We are forced to examine our own freedoms and the limitation of those freedoms. The nature of our democracy and democracies worldwide are dependant on the need for dissention in order to perpetuate dialogue. Yet military actions are justified in the name of democracy and our national vocabulary is being increasingly influenced by the new terms of an expanding American imperialism. Where does truth lie when language itself has been appropriated by a wartime agenda? With this show, the artists will examine these reactions within a personal context and reflect upon what every choice and opinion reveals about our identity and that of our country.
